Skin Care

Good skin care is a very important part of overall health. We often forget that our skin is our biggest organ! Up to 70% of what gets put on our skin goes through the pores and gets absorbed into our body. People are becoming so much more aware of good nutrition and providing the body with the right kind of foods. Why should what we put in our body be any different then what we put ON our body?! It’s simple, be aware…look at labels…and don’t put anything on your body that you wouldn’t want in your body. Nourish your body from the inside as well as the outside for healthy, glowing skin. It is so much fun to experiment with different food based ingredients to create your own personal skin care products! Your days of spending tons of money on eye creams, anti-aging serums, etc. are over, because all of what your skin truly needs are probably right in your kitchen! Things like oats, coconut oil, honey and apple cider vinegar are great for healthy skin!
Many beauty and skin care products that are on the market today are filled with unhealthy, toxic, chemical and potentially harmful ingredients. Unfortunately, that is even true for many products labeled “natural”. According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the FDA does not regulate the amount of unsafe ingredients in cosmetics, and testing is not required to monitor harmful effects in humans. Seriously?! Gross. Your makeup and skin care products may contain ingredients like lead, parabens, chemically created "fragrance", dyes and formaldehyde...just to name a few. The toxic chemicals in cosmetics have the potential to cause anything from allergic reactions and dermatitis to premature aging and possibly even cancer.

Poor nutrition not only makes you feel crappy and zaps your energy, but it can also take a toll on your skin, leaving it dull, dry, flaky can speed up wrinkling and cause breakouts. Eat foods that will nourish your body and in turn that health and vitality will show in your skin.
Here are a few helpful tips to follow to keep your skin vibrant and healthy:

-Eat a diet filled with whole, plant based foods that include a variety of colorful produce, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, etc.
-Limit your intake of animal protein, and when you do eat meat or poultry make sure it's lean and organic; also limit dairy, soy and wheat and sugar
- Keeping your skin clean and fresh is important. Don’t go to bed with makeup on!
-Many people use harsh cleansers that can actually strip the skin of important hydration and leave it dull. Use a mild, natural cleanser and don’t  use regular soaps on your face
-READ labels and know what ingredients are in your skin care products! Even products labeled “mineral” or “natural” can contain toxic chemicals
